Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015)

Take the first steps to a rewarding career in individual care. In this course you’ll gain the skills you need to provide person-centred support to people in residential care (aged care, disability care, community care and hospitals). You’ll learn to use your communication and people skills as well as professional judgement in providing this support.

When you complete this course, you’ll be able to work as a care worker, residential support worker, personal care attendant, nursing assistant, community worker, home carer and in-home respite worker.

The course involves: 13 units of competency (7 core, 6 elective) + a 120-hour work placement

Prerequisites: There are no entry requirements for this course. Previous experience in the industry or entry level studies would be helpful.

You may be able to get credit for units that you’ve studied in other courses. You can also apply for recognition of prior learning, which takes into account the skills and knowledge you’ve gained in previous jobs or education.
Your assessment might include oral and written questions, case studies, practical demonstrations and observations, projects, workplace documents and reports from your supervisor. We’ll make sure that you’re given every possible chance to succeed.
When you successfully complete this course you can go on to other courses such as a Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, Certificate IV in Ageing Support, Certificate IV in Disability or other tertiary qualifications. You’ll also improve your life skills so that you can better support family, friends and community members who need care.
Length: 9 to 12 months
Before you enrol you’ll need to:
  • successfully complete a pre-course interview with us
  • be willing to do a 120-hour work placement
  • be willing to obtain a Police Check before your placement.
