CHC33021 – Certificate III in Individual Support

 

Take the first steps to a rewarding career in individual care. In this course you’ll gain the skills you need to provide person-centered support to people in residential care (aged care, disability care, community care and hospitals). You’ll learn to use your communication and people skills as well as professional judgement in providing this support.

Delivery of this program is structured as such to ensure utilisation of technical and practical skill development to performance in one of the following job roles:

  • Care assistant
  • Home maintenance worker
  • Care service employee
  • In home respite giver
  • Community care/support worker
  • Personal care assistant
  • Personal care giver/worker
  • Disability support worker
  • Planned activity assistant
  • Support worker
  • Home care worker

The course involves: 15 units of competency (9 core, 6 elective)

Mandatory Work Placement:

The following unit of competency requires a mandatory work placement of 120 hours. Learners will be required to log their hours within the practical assessment component of the unit(s), to ensure that performance and hours worked are recorded accurately: CHCCCS040 Support Independence and Wellbeing

Prerequisites:

There are no entry requirements for this course. Previous experience in the industry or entry level studies would be helpful.

Previous experience:

You may be able to get credit for units that you’ve studied in other courses. You can also apply for recognition of prior learning, which takes into account the skills and knowledge you’ve gained in previous jobs or education.

Assessment:

Your assessment might include questions/answers, case studies, workplace documents, practical demonstrations and observations, and reports from your supervisor. We’ll make sure that you’re given every possible chance to succeed.

Pathways:

When you successfully complete this course you can go on to other courses such as a Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, Certificate IV in Ageing Support or other tertiary qualifications.

Length: 9 to 12 months

Before you enrol you’ll need to:

  • successfully complete a pre-course interview with us
  • be fully COVID19 vaccinated if required by the employer
  • be willing to obtain a Police Check before your placement.
  • be willing to do a 120-hour work placement
