There has been a buzz of excitement and activity as we get ready to launch our brand new Brite Cafe in Broadmeadows. This latest social enterprise from Brite will provide the local community with delicious food and coffee, while providing meaningful employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities.
Let’s take a closer look at all the great work that has been done to get Brite Cafe ready for its big opening day!
Preparing the Perfect Space
The preparations for Brite Cafe in Broadmeadows have been a flurry of activity, transforming the space into a welcoming spot for the local community. Matt, Gordon, Sunny, and their team have done a fantastic job, restoring and relocating the outdoor furniture and converting a planter box into a high-top bench. They have coordinated efforts to move machines, cap pipes, and manage electricial, pest control, and dispenser installations.
Inside the cafe, the refurbished art-deco style espresso machine is ready to serve coffee to the locals of Broadmeadow. With sustainability as a key focus, we will be serving food and drinks in home compostable takeaway coffee cups and food packaging sourced from Bean Around Town. The cafe is also exploring partnerships with local organisations to repurpose used coffee grounds for composting to further strengthen our eco-friendly outlook.
Final Touches and Recruitment
As the finishing touches come together, the Brite Cafe team is busy rounding out the staff to join Courtney and Jade. The team is eagerly anticipating the caffeine-fueled buzz as they test the skills of the new recruits.
Courtney has been meticulously planning the menu, sourcing suppliers, finding savings, and conducting recipe and taste tests. She’s also been coordinating with developers on maintenance and ensuring the cafe sparkles after a full day of deep cleaning.
With signage plans approved, a Brite Cafe Instagram page is in the works, thanks to PN Digital and Logos Development. The final steps include setting up the phone and internet, filling planter boxes, painting, and creating an indoor plant wall, all while planning for a formal launch and a soft opening party.
Empowering Through Training
The heart of Brite Cafe’s mission is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Jody has been proactive in recruiting a dedicated group of employees ready to join as trainees at our Brite cafes. Alongside Megan, she has been developing a comprehensive training program covering all aspects of cafe operations. This program includes essential skills such as safely cutting ingredients, processing orders and handling money, grinding Allpress Espresso coffee beans, and frothing milk to perfection.
The training program is designed to equip trainees with the skills needed to excel in a cafe environment, fostering confidence and independence that they can take with them into other employment opportunities. By offering hands-on experience and supportive training, Brite Cafe is creating a nurturing space where individuals with disabilities can thrive. This initiative not only benefits the employees but also enriches the local community by promoting inclusivity and diversity in the workforce.
